Japanese Cultural Activites on Miyajima
Tea Ceremony
(1,000 yen. It lasts about 1h depending on the number of people)
It starts every hour from 9:00am till 17:00 pm (No tea ceremony between 12 and 13:00).
First, you’ll learn the basics of a traditional tea ceremony and then you’ll participate in one. Tea and Japanese sweets are served during the ceremony. Green tea will be served after the ceremony to cool down!! *Those who attend the ceremony once can take calligraphy class for 1,000 yen (300 yen off the original price). Reservations are NOT required. You can stop by anytime!!
Calligraphy class
(1,300 yen. 1hour) It starts from 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 13:00 pm, 14:30 pm, and 16:00 pm (1 hour/class).
You don’t need to bring anything and the art that you make in class is yours to keep!! Green tea will also be served after the class to quench your thirst!! *If you want to take another class, please let us know. We will arrange the next step for you and you’ll get a 200 yen discount! Those who take this class once can take a tea ceremony for 700 yen(300 yen off the original price). Reservations are not required, but it’s better to book in advance so you won’t be disappointed to know it’s fully booked.
Cooking Class
(1,500 yen for lunch class/2,500 yen for dinner class)
The lunch class starts from 10:00 am (about 1 hour 30 minutes). The dinner class starts from 15:00 pm (about 3 hours). Let’s enjoy making Japanese food and of course eating it!!
*Those who take the cooking class once can take a calligraphy class for 1,000 yen and a tea ceremony for 700 yen. It’s better to book in advance so you won’t be disappointed to know it’s fully booked.

All day--just stop by!! Enjoy the view of the shrine, the torii, the five story pagoda and the sea from the hill while making new friends!!

Access

20 minute walk from the ferry pier. 5 minute walk from Momijidani park and Daisyo-in temple.
From Momijidani bridge in Momijidani park: Walk up to the Momijidani park from the sea side. You will find a small vermilion bridge called “Momiji bridge” at the entrance of the park. Turn right RIGHT AFTER you cross the bridge. (The path doesn’t look like a path for tourists.) Pass through a small tunnel. After the tunnel go left and follow the road that goes up. 30 seconds after the tunnel, you’ll find our English sign “Hiramatsu-chaya”. Come upstairs.
From Daisyo-in temple: Walk straight a little from the main gate of Daisyo-in temple on the Takiko-ji Alley. You will find our English sign “Hiramatsu-chaya” on your right. Turn right there and follow the road. In a couple of minutes you will find our English sign “Hiramatsu-chaya” on your right again. Come upstairs.

Note: Be warned that Hiramatsu-chaya is not on the English map you get at the information center onthe pier. If you are lost, call us (090-8996-4252) or ask for directions to “Hiramatsu-chaya.”
