Oita (大分) is located in the northeastern part of Kyushu. Its capital is Oita City.
Oita prefecture is Japan's Hot Spring Kingdom, particularly those in and around the city of Beppu.
It ranks first in Japan both in the number of hot spring sources and the volume of water discharged. The number of hot spring sources accounts for 18% of the total and the amount of water discharged accounts for 10% of the total.
The "Kokonoe Yume Otsuribashi Suspension Bridge," spanning the Naruko River Gorge in the town of Kokonoe, Kusu County, is the longest footpath suspension bridge in Japan with a length of 390meters and a height of 173 meters.
This is a good place to dive into the more rural Japan off the beaten track!!
