Kagoshima (鹿児島) is located at the southern tip of Kyushu. Its capital is Kagoshima City.
Kagoshima prefecture consists of the mainland made up of the Satsuma and Osumi Peninsulas and more than 200 islands including the World Natural Heritage Sites, Yakushima Island and Tanegashima Island.
There is an active volcano, Sakurajima Island (桜島) that regularly dumps ash over the city.
